Default Rust repair

Hey,

How critcal is rust repair? I have a bubble on the rear passenger side wheel well. My customs guy said its about $700 CAD to fix (take off everything, cut it out, weld in new metal, blast anything that doesnt need actual replacing, strip back atleast 12" from the rust spot and then repaint/clear the whole back quarter panel (or I think thats what it is called). He said it could wait 6 months or so and its no big rust but I should get it repair. Can it spread that easily? Anything I can do to slow it down?

700 doesn't sound too awful, and it really should be done, but I definately agree that it could prolly wait till spring. As for slowing it down... sorry can't help.

Definatly not the best way to fix rust, but if it isn't that bad, you could grind the rust off and bondo over it. Then paint it and what not.

Well they dont do bond. He says he will cut out and weld in a new peice over anything thats really bad and blast anything that is "blastable" I guess. He seems to go overkill to make sure its gone and hes pretty reputable. Ill see what happens.

Thanks
Jeff

dont bondo it, get the guy to cut it out and weld a piece in, 700 isent that much because it perminitly gets rid of the rust (unless you dont take car of it )...dont forget to get your car rustproofed!!

yeah how do u get your car rust proofed.... A type of coating for the paint. I have heard of devices that actually sends a current through the body of your car that is meant to stop rust, anyone heard or use this.

Nerver heard of that lol. We get our rust proofing done in canada usually by KROWN which sprays a water repelling oil in to all the panels of the car (not the outside). It works very well.
