but to unhook them ive always heard just unplug the yelow plugs on the bags but ive also heard to unplug them but dont pull the bags then... let them sit overnight so the electrical charge has drained before ya remove them overnight.... BUT then again thats just what ive heard..... i just know i wouldnt want one of those suckers blowing off in my face thats for sure! lol

Now when taking it off you shouldn't have to remove the airbag just arround it (airbag in mounted in that metal frame thing i believe, but you should disable the airbags whenever your working arround them. Remember don't even think about messing with yellow wires because those are airbag wires.

Here is what the manual says:

Disabling the SRS system
Warning: Anytime you are working in the vicinity of airbag wiring or components, DISABLE THE SRS SYSTEM

6. Disconnect the bettery negative cable, then disconnect the positive cable and wait three minutes. Caution: The radio in your vehicle may be equipped with an anti-theft system. Make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the bettery.
7. Carefully disconnect the airbag system connectors as described in the following steps.

Driver's side airbag
8. Remove the access panel on the steering wheel below the airbag
9. Disconnect the driver's airbag module two pin connector.
10. On 1994 and 1995 inegra models remove the red shorting connector from the holder and insert it into the airbag side of the connector. 1996 and later models are automatically shorted when disconnected.

Passenger's side airbag
11. Remove the glove box
12. Disconnect the passenger's airbag module two-pin connector.

That's what is says, if you wanna know about enabling it I'll tell you more later. Again, I say this for my own sake, I have never done this myself, and so I would use as much caution as possible. After you disable it I would wait a few minutes. Do not hold me responsible for anything that happens to your car or to yourself.

Yeah if you disconnect them when the battery is hooked up it will throw an error and register in the car ECU so every time you turn the car on (Even if it's plugged in) that SRS light will come on. And then you have to do a bunch of crap to reset it.

Lol, i remember that post i made. But now I have done it myself.

well most people will never take out thier whole dash...LOL
but from what ive heard the only typical problem is afew bolts in the rear that can be a HUGE PITA......

its just not removed much at all to even work on a DIY BUT if you realy wanted to....

but only about 1% of civic owners have ever pulled thier full dashes....

Yeah I could never figure out how to pull out my dash, I couldn't find every last bolt. Now that I have the service manual I know which bolts I was missing. But you must understand, when you pull it out that whole metal frame comes with it. That's why you have to unplug a bunch of electrical connections, not just the SRS. If you really want to do it I can upload jpegs of the instructions in the service manual, its like 3 pages or somehting. I painted the interior of my car, but it was too much work for me to figure out the dash so I just gave up and decided to spray it inside the car. It actually wasn't that bad just make sure you mask everything off. Turned out really good.
