If all your doing it taking it out to paint it then just tape everything off like the windows and paint it in the car. That's what I did and it turned out great. I also think that if you disconnect your srs the wrong way it might trigger the airbags because the airbags have a backup battery so if you get hit in the battery during a wrech and it gets disabledthe airbags will still deploy.

Yeah I took out certain parts like the part where the outlet is and the cluster, then used trashbags, duct tape to cover all the windows and seats and to section off the back part of the car. Wiped down the dash with a damp cloth several times to make sure it was clean, then scuffed the surface with some 1000grit sandpaper. Covered parts of my car with tarp and then took about an hour and a half and sprayed several coats on and then let it dry. It's not that hard. But I would suggest (when painting in the first place) and especially when painting inside the car, that you get one of those charcoal respirators with the dual filters. It'll really make painting more confortable and save your lungs.

I thought it was kind of funny when I was reading the service manual about the SRS system. Honda a unit that you yourself can use to deploy your airbags before disposal. You like hook it right up to the battery and some other wire and you can deploy them, lol.

It will turn out a lot better if you take the console out imo, but I guess you don'thave to. Cover up bare wires around the dash also because I didn't and some overspray hit some wires under my dash, I can still tell what colors they are but if it would have been any worse I would have all black wires under my dash and that would make it a PITA if you ever have to workwith your stock wireing.

Yes take out that console, along with the lower dash parts (part below steering column, part with outlet, glovebox), the front pillars (trim), dashboard side panels (1 on each side) they pop right off, and I think that's all.

If you don't you'll have missed spots. You'll also save the work of masking and avoid overspray.

You don't have to take anything off the steering column (Just cover is with a trash bag). Just use big black trash bags to cover everything like the seats, carpet, door panels and windows, windshield, or you can buy some painters plastic sheeting from like walmart and cover everything. Just make sure you mask anything that you don't want paint and might get misted or sprayed by paint. I forgot to put some near the door and I got a tiny bit of overspray. And when you tape the windows up with plastic or whatever make sure it is taught so it's not hanging over and won' get in the way of your painting.

I took these photos right after I finished spraying and removed the masking carefully. You can see there are areas that the radio console and other parts you must remove cover that would missed.

If you don't know how to remove some of those parts, just ask. What year is your civic?
