Steering wheel?
One problem with a new steering wheel from another car (i.e. the S2k) is that the ignitor for the airbag is often not included if you buy it from someplace like weksos industries or PWJDM. the reason behind that is that the gov't classifies the ignitor as an explosive device.
hey, i have a quick question--i've been looking to get a JDM DC5 steering wheel or a s2k steering wheel for my 98 civic ex. are they direct bolt-ons or do i need to get an adapter or something to make it work?
get AP1 s2000 steering wheel(any year before 04)
the steering wheel bolts up directly on the spline. The horn wires are a direct hookup as is the airbag.
For the cruise control you'll need to splice/re-connect just 3 wires since the connector in the column doesn't match the connection to the new CC switch. The wire colors won't match, but if you pair them in order how they're line up it works perfect.(top wire from CC switch matches top wire in steering column adapter, middle to middle, bottom to bottom. I just bought some butt connectors)
Just make sure you disconnect the battery before uninstalling/reinstalling the steering wheel. I forget what size, but you'll need a starbit to remove 1 screw on each side of the wheel that holds the airbag unit to the wheel. You can get it at autozone/advanced(they let me take a starbit out the the store to match the size). When disconnecting I turn on headlights and push on the horn, if nothing sounds or comes on I go right on and disconnect the wheel, although some wait like 10 minutes.
If you haven't already seen it, click below on My Civic to see what it looks like
Besides lowering the car, I think it's the best thing I've done to it, looks so much better than the stock "granny" wheel.
