Default White gauge faces loose wires to nothing?

Hi
My daughter just bought a 97 Honda Civic dx. it has the white gauge faces and I noticed each has a thin white wire hanging from it. What are they for and where do they connect? I was trying to find why the coolant temp gauge is not working. Any ideas? which of the two sensors is for the gauge? one on the side of head or the one in thermo housing?
Thanks
Ron

I believe it is the single wire on the head like if your lookin in to the engine compartment its to the left side of the head.

the white wire hanging from the gauges should be to power them. they should clip into a black box. atleast thats how mine are
