Would it be a terrible idea?
So, while my husband is in bootcamp, my father-in-law and I are completely redoing his 92 Civic hatchback.
I feel like the interior needs a little bit of a facelift, so we were thinking about repainting the plastic (or vinyl or whatever the hell its made of) interior pieces - ie the dashboard, door panels, etc. - They're already black, but very faded - We were just going to repaint them black and maybe add a little bit of yellow to match the rest of the car.
How horrible of an idea is this? I'm worried about chipping and cracking and it looking like **** in the long run.
We're willing to take the time to sand all the pieces down, wash them, clean them with alcohol, prime them and then paint - but are we just wasting our time?
I'm already spending quite a bit of money on a motor swap, paint and lots of other stuff (which I posted in the project section) so I can't really afford to buy all new interior pieces right now.
What do you all think? I'd really appreciate any feedback!

Personally, I'd stick with just black. Brightly colored interiors tend to get old real fast.
As far as the paint chipping and everything, I've never had problems with Krylon Fusion. Or you could dye the interior pieces, but I don't think you'd have problems with the paint chipping.

more than likely the paint will start chipping after awhile, some people lay fiber glass down then paint it, but you probably should just leave it, you could take the cluster apart and paint the benzel yellow, and add a yellow shift boot, and maybe have the headliner rewraped in yellow if you wanna add a little yellow accent but i wouldnt suggest painting it. alot of members here wouldnt suggest doing anything to it but its your car and if your husband likes stuff like that then go ahead.
I painted my interior plastics with krylon fusion. I've got all sorts of brown lines on the lower plastic part under the drivers side door where my work boots have rubbed against it. The paint came right off. Looks BAD.
My brother and his friends have painted thier dash and stuff before. They got some clear coat on it all, and it lasted a long time.
Do yourself a favor, and don't paint the dash anything other than black! The color will just radiate onto the windshield when the sun hits it. Annoying as hell, and can be very blinding!
