Go to court in your dress uniform. Get there an hour early, and find the prosecutor. Speak to him in a professional manner and he may be willing to work with you. In NJ this usually works, hell lower the ticket to one that carries no points, BUT you pay out the ***. Like 500 bucks, but your insurance stays the same.

I've got two words for ya... plea bargain, If they're nailing ya for the full charge, and you have a relatively ok driving record, try to bargain for a lesser charge, it works in Michigan... they just want the money anyway.
IN cali the only way to get a lesser charge or fine or whatever is to first plea not guilty. A lot of people dont understand this and get up there and say, "guilty with explenation" and then want the fine reduced. If you are claiming guilty, the judge will keep the fine. It will not change. Once you plea not guilty you will talk to a DA, they will give you your options. There could be alot, from less fine, to less MPH to come back and fight the ticket. Talk to them about your options, that is their job.
Also, no matter what, plea no contest. It is the same as guilty but cant bite you in the *** later. Say someone in a year who was on the street walking that you were speeding and got busted claimes you went by them so fast the hurt their back or something stupid, anything stupid, if they sue you and their lawyer goes back to your speedig ticket case and you pled guilty, there is nothing you can do. IF you pled no contest, they will first have to prove you guilty of speeding. Obviously this is a rare problem but it wont change anything to plea no contest rather then guilty.
