Default AARRGGGHH!!!

Ok ever since i rebuilt my computer my internet has been slower then cold molasses. I am currently downloading a 5mb file and it has taken me 10 minutes so far and i am only 38% completed. I am using FireFox and did the thing posted to increase the sped of it. But still my DSL connection is slower then ever. The only difference that i can think of is that i am now using my onboard LAN and not a PCI Ethernet card anymore. but the ethernet card was only marketed for 100mbps, and my onboard is marketed for up to a 1GB connection. And my comptuer is alot faster too... Anyonw have any suggestions? I am getting XP smoker so that i can get rid of all those pesky services running in the back ground. But my internet was never THIS slow... I even did an internet test and my upload speed was only ~70kbps for it, and my upload(which is usually 1/4 the speed of download) was 280kbps...

Anyone have any ideas what could eb causing it?

Old Specs
Pentium 4 1.7GHZ
512MB RAM
Average speed for a download was probably arround 300kbps

Current Specs
Pentium D 3.2ghz
1GB RAM
Average speed right now files are only downloading at 4kbps. Fastest i have seen was 120kbps

i do that.. sometimes i just need to disconnect my router and modem wait about 30 seconds then plug the modem 1st then the router. Pesky programs wont really slow the internet speed down, itll slow the computer itself down. It may have to do with the onboard instead of PCI but im using onboard too so i dont see a problem there. It might just be DSL itself and nothing to do with ur comp at all.. u could take it to a friends house and hook it up to see if its the comp or the modem

yeah i cleared out my Temp folder, deletedd the cookies again, and cleared the cache. seems to be a little faster now. but still seems a bit slower then it use to. If i really find it keeps up i will just take it to my Dad's house, and get him to take a look at it. or try the PCI card

It's probably the connection, not your comp. May be there're more people using DSL in your neighborhood, try to call your ISP.
