Default Could you avoid your last accident?

This is an attempt to improve the wording of my previous poll to make sure I ask what I really meant to.

If you answer “no”, that means you think there was nothing you could possibly do to avoid the accident, absolutely nothing at all. Let me give you an example to clarify. Imagine you are waiting for a green light at an intersection with a perfect visibility in all directions and light traffic. Light turns green, you hesitate a bit and start to move. As soon as you enter the intersection you got hit by another car running red light. Technically you are not at fault at all, which is absolutely clear to everybody, including the other driver if he is not complete idiot. But you could easily avoid the accident if you looked around before starting to move, paid attention to this approaching car and yielded to it even though this was your undeniable right of way! In such a case you cannot answer “no” here.

If you answer “yes”, this does not mean you were at fault. This just means that in hindsight you see that you could perform some sort of an action or refrain from some sort of an action, and avoid the accident as a result of this. Again, this has nothing to do with who was officially and/or technically at fault, this has to do with an action or inaction on your side that could have prevented the accident, like in the example in the paragraph above.

Thank you.

Hmm...wasn't driving my car, it had bald tires, it was snowing heavily and the streets were icy. I could have driven a LOT slower but I didn't. Slid through a yield sign, and just about T-boned a guy. Wrote of both cars (oops) but I prefer to think that I put both clunkers out of their misery!

Suppose I could have not just assumed my neighbor parked in her usual parking spot. Then maybe I could have also refrained from driving while pissed and backed into her open tail gate going about 12 miles per hour with my old nissan. [sm=icon_beat.gif]

nothing i could have done, i got cut off by an suv (stupid ugly vehicle even tho i drive one) and he slammed on his brakes and i rear ended him. legally its my fault, but techincally he caused it.

now if i had more time i could have slowed down even more i was only going about 15-20mph, but regardless of i i slowed down or not he cut me off and slammed on his brakes and i am paying for it.

Have had my close calls, but no accidents yet. When I say close calls I mean CLOSE, nothing like getting cut off doing 75mph, locking the tires, and sliding sideways.[&:]
