Just curious, what is the rationale behind our forum administrators' decision to limit political debate in the Off Topic section? It's a U.S. presidential election year after all.

Could you or forum administrators give us a rough idea of what is meant by "get out of hand"? Do you mean limiting the number of total posts in political threads or moderating the tone of the debate in threads?

i mean if people get flared up and get out of hand with their comments. it could be a 20 page thread i dont care as long all the comments are reasonible. i dont want republicans flaming democrats or vise versa. i dont want someone getting flamed because they say they want to vote for joe blow.

Yeah, I completely agree that any type of overt flaming should not be tolerated. Instead, comments and debate should be entirely directed at issues as opposed to the individuals posting their ideas. I recognize that some recent posts in threads may have crossed this line. On the other hand, I also feel that mods and admins might try warning individuals that cross this line prior to locking down the thread. Such warnings might help keep the peace and avoid termination of an otherwise useful and interesting political debate.
