doesnt have to be b8 bolts......b1,b2,a6,z6 share the same length and thread pitch.

That's good to know. Thanks. I had a hell of a time getting the b8 bolts the first time. What's your opinion on pistons. Should I get a set of zc's... Their the dome pistons right??? So it would boost the compression.. That's kinda what I'm leaning towards, but havent gotten into it yet.

1.6 pistons wont fit properly....at least as a direct drop in. unless you go this route, d15z1 rods along with dohc zc pistons.....but the pistons will stick out the bore a bit. you will definatly have to clay this combo and consider your cam selection very carefully. picture courtesy of mista bone.....on the left is a dohc zc piston on z1 rod and on the right is a 1.5 piston on stock rod.....

So do you think it would be a good move.. or should I just stick with the stock pistons and do the rings?

depends on what you want.....rings most deffinatly.... a friend of mine had a crx with a bone stock bottm end b2. had a crane 0016 cam, obx intake mani, hp header and a custom exh...ran 9.1 on the 1/8 and gave ls, b16 and the occasional gsr swapped crx one hell of a run. this was done non vtec also. as far as the zc pistons go, how good are you with building? that set up offers a slithtly longer rod/stroke ratio so high rpm power will be awsome. although there is no telling how long the 1.5 rods will last.

depends on what you plan to do with it, if your gonna go all motor then I say get a set of a6 pistons if boosting I would stay stock or go with something aftermarket

It's going to be an all motor set-up... And if i did the zc pistons with the z1 rods it should be ok, or would that be iffy on how long the rods will last? And what is the advantage of the a6 pistons?

no advantage with a6 pistons there dished where the 1.5 pistons are flat tops. the set up i wouldnt be able to tell you how long it would last really, it hasnt been done yet. its still in the experimental phase right now(at least to my knowledge) but with an all motor 1.5 id be hesitant with the vtec heads. you can get bigger cam options with a non vtec head not to mention more availability. really all you get outta a vtec head is higher compression and different flow charactoristics along with better drivability.

If you are serious about going all motor I honestly suggest finding and buying a Z6,A6,Y7,Y8 block and building it. The D15's are not a fan favorite among aftermarket parts suppliers. The crank will not accept aftermarket D16 rods, the only rods you can use that are any thicker are the Z1 rods out of the VX. On top of that you can not put a D16 crank into a 1.5 block. I would get the mini me done and go hunting for a D16 short block. That is what i plan to do. I have a JDM D15B and while it will accept d16 rods the deck is shorter and requires custom pistons. Z6 block with eagle rods and forged pistons in the tune of a 10.5 to 1 compression, a set of aftermarket retainers, valves, and a good cam. The head upgrades will allow you to rev to 8000rpm w/o worries and the compression will be high enough to add power but low enough to be able to run a good shot of n2o on.

I say to keep the compression low like that because some are a bit unhappy with the power you make with a all motor D, that way you can spray it and pull real good times at the track and run 93 octane gas when not at the track. Easy setup to tune and will be reliable if not beat on.

I'm planning on building a block over summer for my winter project, but I want to be able to play with this this summer. And I'm doing the rings either way, I want to get what I can out of this engine while I have it If I were to do the zc pistons and the z1 rods... is that what is still in the experimental stage??? What are the odds of this holding up until winter? I really dont want to put stock pistons back in it after having this apart twice already.

** edit ** sorry if I seem like a dumba** I think I'm just confusing myself on this one... finalimpact... i'm at work til 530, pm me your email
