The Y21/S21/S4C from the USDM 99/00 Si (with 195/55-15 tires) would have the following top speeds disregarding drag assuming an 8000rpm redline:

1st gear - 40mph
2nd gear - 62mph
3rd gear - 90mph
4th gear - 118mph
5th gear - 149mph

Different tire sizes will effectively change the speeds, though (it does the same thing as changing the final drive).

And don't feel bad. Even with a numerically higher ring/pinion (meaning shorter gears all around), I can still hit 60mph in 2nd. Barely lol

no, it's really doesn't make a difference to me. it's just weird since i'm not used to how things are run here i guess. on my local forum, it''s basically a free for all, rules only apply to the sale section. then on s2ki, it's really strict and that's fine to me also, i adapt easily.

it's just weird when the rules seem as if they are very well thought out when it really all sums up to just imply that mods get the say so in everything, and that's really fine. and i know that mods do everything for FREE, but if they complain that it's such a hassle then why even do it?

i also really don't care if that guy is banned, since he is rude and obnoxious, but if the forum is really just a place to hang out and chill and have a laugh at ridiculous people, then there's really no point in banning him, since as another mod said, we can leave him on here for kicks and giggles.

edit: lol, didn't that thread have like 16 pages spanning over a week, that must've been one crazy head gasket job!!!!

of course this makes sense, since this is how all forums treat their members and noobs. but it's just quite apparent that the staff members were making personal attacks on him also, which basically means everyone is on the same low level. which of course, this is a forum so no surprise.

and again, since this is a forum i'm just voicing my opinion. i do believe this is a great site so it's not like i really want anything changed, so keep up the good work mods

It was an in-car head gasket job on a horizontally-opposed four cylinder. Of course it took a while

Nah, they take 6-8 hours to do. I was talking about the last 80 posts or so (last two pages with my settings, but I have it set for the maximum posts/page), which all took place in the middle of the day over the course of a few hours. That's why I locked the thread. Before that it was mostly what could be considered bickering back and forth with a few personal attacks thrown in. The last 80 or so posts were nothing but personal attacks and censored profanity.

*edit: but seriously, putting the heads back on a boxer engine while it's still in the car sucks. Getting down to the heads and taking them off is easy, putting the heads back on is a huge PITA.

well it'd probably take me personally like a month to do that on a boxer engine lol, but you're a mechanic with skillz so you should finish it in a snap ;D

Yup. Even the 6-speeds have relatively long gears. Granted, my rev-limit is raised to 6,000rpm, so I get a little more speed out of each gear if I redline it (the car hasn't seen past 4k in years), but the gears are a lot longer than you'd think. The good thing about it is ring/pinion gear kits are pretty common in various ratios (stock ranges from 2.73:1 to 3.55:1, and aftermarkets usually range from 3.55:1 to 4.56:1) and they're not hard to change. I went from a 3.27:1 to a 3.73:1 and wish I'd have waited for the 4.10:1 ring/pinions to come back in stock before settling for the 3.73.

Hell yeah, definitely short gears. I like it though, allows you to use your power better, and a better use of the RPM range. Why do you think they started making H2B kits? H-series power and tourque with B-series short gears. Perfect combination!

thats a good question. its something i have very little knowledge of. theres actually a lot of debate about trans vs gearing around the net. its hard to weed out the hearsay from the facts.
