So, today on my 1hr drive to work I got pulled over. I was doing 60 in a 55 and out of no where a state trooper came flying up behind me and after about a minute turned on his lights. I pulled over and he was like "You know why I pulled you over right?" I was like, not really! He tells me that I was speeding through a school zone! Now, the road that I was on is a 55 mph road and there is a school on the right side with a little pedestrian crossing sign with yellow lights flashing. No speed zone warning or school zone warning.. but apparently it is a school zone, and I should have known better than to do 60 through it?!?!?!

Not only that, he says "I also pulled you over for your exhaust" (magnaflow catback w/ 4" tip). He asked me what else I have done to my car, which I replied intake and exhaust. He then informed me that anything not stock on my car is illegal and he could ticket me for them.

After arguing about all the above "infractions" with him, he said, "Well I am going to be nice to you and let you off without writing you any tickets... but I could.... and just hope I don't see you again." Which boggles my mind because I drive this road twice a day everyday.. which I have been doing for over 1yr and a half. I mean, I am grateful that he "let me off", but what the hell was the point of all that?!?

He also asked where I go to school, which I replied that I don't go to school anymore that I work, and he kinda went "oh.." and looked away. Basically I think he was looking to bust some "punk college kid/ricer" who doesn't know any better, but then got me and didn't care anymore. What boggles my mind even more, didn't say a word about my illegal 20% tint all around (which I have been ticketed for already too, but that was a speeding ticket that he let me off with a tint ticket)...

He was probably jsut bein a douche cause he was bored or missed his lunch break. Cops do that sometimes. Idk about a school zone but if it wasnt posted they cant do anything unless youre going more then 6 over.

lately i have had SOOO many cops just pull up on my *** and follow me for like 25 minutes on this one stretch between my town and a larger city that i always go to. Like literally, do a U-turn on the highway and get right on my ***. They never pull me over because i keep it at 55-60 and have legal tint, but its just annoying, because i know they just want to catch a high school ricer kid (like you said man). Atleast you got off with a warning, and i would REALLY like to see the law that said all aftermarket parts are illegal. Thats just ridiculous. Where are you at anyway?

 

They can ticket for having an intake in your state WTF. I seriously doubt that he could of ticketed u for an intake unless u lived in california but you live in new york. If he pulled you over for doing 5 over he was being a dick IMO. Probably seen the 5 over and didnt care about it but when he seen your exhaust he immediately went into super cop mode.

Yeah, like Talon said, I am in Upstate NY. The thing is I always drive the same speed.. my ankle has gotten used to that position of keeping my car at 60, so every day I go past that same spot at the same speed... and I have seen cops in that same spot he was probably in like 20+ times, and none of them have ever came after me or the other people doing almost 65 (10mph over).. It was ridiculous...

And I am not sure about the exhaust / intake.. I think I read somewhere that even lowering/raising your suspension can give you a ticket. such crap.

 

That sux. I dislike cops....

 

only thing i've ever heard is illegal ECU and not passing emissions, other than that i havent really heard of anyhting....California is really strict, im not sure about NY

 

After looking around on the web I found this site.. SEMA Action Network.. Gives a pretty good idea of what kind of legislations are being brought up and stuff about car customizations..

I couldn't believe some of the legislations trying to be passed in NY.. like "Prohibits operation of sound amplifying devices in motor vehicles that make sound plainly audible from distance of one hundred feet or more from vehicle or louder than necessary for convenient hearing inside vehicle near churches, school, hospitals."... and another one that basically says a cop can seize your car if you have amplification devices in your car?!?!
