Default Home Improvement

Since everyone here is so crafty with DIY stuff, I have to ask. Anyone into home improvement? I am buying my first house and would like to ask advice on flooring. Laminate? Terra Cotta tiles? I would like to lay any kind of flooring except carpet. What do you think?
Also, when doing floors, painting and moving in, etc. Obviously I want to do the work before I move in, but do I start at the top (with painting ceilings) and work to the floor?
And advice you can offer will be great.
Thanks!

I do tiles and painting with some buddies during the summer. You should paint first so you dont have to use drop cloths, and even if you do use drop cloths your going to get paint on the floor.

Second, its all about what YOU like when it comes to floors but, lam will peel after a few years and its easy to scuff and looks like crap but its cheap.

Tiles are the way I would go, they cost a little more but are not as hard as lam to put in and they look very nice, never scuff or peel. Once you know how to lay tile (its easy) you can do a floor in no time.
