Listen to this:

Toyota telling suppliers not to sell parts to Hyundai It has been said before that Toyota's biggest worry is not overtaking GM in sales, but rather Hyundai overtaking Toyota in sales. With that in mind, Toyota has told suppliers not to sell parts to Hyundai. If the suppliers resist, Toyota may increase their stockholding in these companies, and thereby force them to do so.

Snippet: It could be said that major car parts are developed jointly by carmakers and their affiliates. So, "It's like fattening a rival company at Toyota's own development expenses," says Toyota official. Some Toyota executives said, "We may have to pressure (the parts makers) not to do business with Hyundai. It may sound extremely drastic, but we may have to think of raising the stockholdings of our affiliates to make them do as we tell them."

i think the only reason toyota has to be worried about hyundai overtaking their sales is that hyundai sells their cars so cheap and you get wut you pay for give it a few more years and ull see the old ones breakin down all the time...i wouldnt buy a hyundai, but thats me

yah and I think your completley wrong. The Azera and the Sonata, along with the new Elantra, and the upcoming RWD Tiburon are all headed in the right direction. Hyundai cannot charge more or even the same as Toyota because of their past reputation, and Toyota has built a much better reputation, but just remember there was a point in time where no one would buy a Jap car, and GM was in Toyota's postition.

At least Toyota is smart about it and realizing their competition is catching up. I dont think the exec's at toyota are sitting in a room deciding to buy up parts suppliers because they feel Hyundai is going to over take them because they are cheap, thats completley moronic, go take a business course lol

They are realizing they are using the same parts suppliers Toyota is using now, instead of using their own suppliers in previous years which is a big reason why their cars had the reputation they had.

These cars are all Value priced not cheaply made. You can let your bias against Hyndai blind you, which is fine, but your wrong.

Also a side note, Hyundai makes alot of engines for other car companies, if not outright then jointly.

Mitsu for one. The 3.0 V6 in the 3rd gen eclipse(also in the tibby) was co-produced by Mitsu/Hyundai.
