^ I didnt know that... I always thought the tail gate added drag.

hmm i didnt know that about the tailgate. and i had meant toneau cover not bed liner. but i guess you knew what i meant. i knew about the wind swirling cause when i had an empty bottle of wiper fluid in the back i stayed right up by the window. but i just assumed that the tailgate was like a wall blocking wind and if that wall wasnt there then it had no drag. isnt that why there was that huge fad of net tailgates back in the day? but thats good to know

Actually (and I know this will shock you and you won't believe me), that's not true. The UW just did a wind tunnel study a little while ago, and the way the air currents flow off the back of the roof, removing the tailgate actually creates MORE drag. When the gate is on, it creates a circular swirling cushion of air in the bed, which effectively streamlines the back of the truck, so any newly-introduced air flows cleanly over the top of the bed and the tailgate.
you beat me. a bed cover does not make the car anymore efficient than it is without a bed cover either. to prove kappas point, check out a pickup going down the freeway with some leaves in the bed. the leaves will swirl around in the pocket of air, but very few actually blow out. also if you add a topper onto a truck (full size, not just bed cover) it reduces the efficiency quite a bit. come on people, brush up on your fluid dynamics

And few people know that by adding a hood ornament that it actually splits up the wind and forces it around the vehicle more.

That's why I like it. It's like what I'd build if I had a truck. It'd be a good race, although I think I'd edge it out from a roll.

umm..i have to interject..i thought that it has been discovered that a truck with the tailgate up is better than a tailgate down, but a smooth bed cover is the best choice, which is why all of the nascar trucks run them...as well as the defunct NHRA pro stock truck class

here is a video of a friend of mine, who just had something added to his sRT10 ram...make sure that your volumn is up so that you can really enjoy it...
