I need some help....:)
Im not sure if this is the right place to post this.....its not a civic question either (f-150)but i figured most of the ppl on here know alot about cars so i can ask you guys....anyways....would any of you know what could possibly cause the catalytic converter to be glowing red (HOT) after running for a couple minutes?
it's probably clogged. i would deffinately take it off and check for blockage, or just replace it... if you don't want to replace it, and don't have to go through emmisions, just hit it on the gorund and clear all the filter stuff out, and make it a straight pipe
It all started cuz the driver side header was cracked so they replaced that....then put everything back together and the thing ran worse than before....when we drove it the driver side cat started glowing red and it was making this wierd popping noise kinda like backfiring but not iin the exhaust....after that they replaced the cats and it still glowed red on the driver side......they kinda had a problem changing the header cuz one of the studs broke off and had to be drilled/tapped to 10mm...could that have been the problem?
Did you check the pipes leading to the first cat? Something is causing heat to build up near the cat. This can be a clog or for some reason the exhaust is really, really hot. Is anything else red hot such as the headers? If the exhaust itself is hot, the headers and other pipes might also glow red hot.
The only thing glowing red is the cat....[:@]the check engine light came on after the first time we ran the truck.....we didnt check to see what it meant.....after that they replaced the cats and the light never came on again.....we only ran in about 1/2 a mile cuz we didnt want to mess it up anymore...so the o2 or map sensor could cause all that mess?
