I've been there a few times, I used to live a little north of there. I've never seen the show, but I'm under the impression it's not what the show says...it's a nice, peaceful community with nice people and cutsie stores and bistros along the sidewalk. Check out the farmer's market if you can. Sure, there's nice looking young ladies here and there, but don't expect a babefest in the least. The weather has been very nice here the past week, but January is our rainy season and it usually rains very heavily for a week straight. Just a FYI.

If you have any say in the flight, try to fly into Santa Ana (aka Orange County or John Wayne, airport code is SNA). It's a lot closer than LAX and is very, very small in comparison. It's also a fairly quick shot down the 405 to the 241. However, I don't think you'll be able to get a direct flight, which you most certainly can get to LAX (and it's miserable!).

If you want to drive up PCH some, Huntington Beach is ok, there's some surfer stores there, plus a lot of people near the pier on nice days. I've heard Santa Monica is nice, but it's a good 45min-1 hour drive. You can also go to Knott's Berry Farm or Six Flags if you want to do the amusement park route.
