i prefer using heh,hah, and haha instead of lol...its a real expression...so i could definately go a week without lol...heh

People get pissed off by what i say if I don't include the prodigious 'lol' at the end. If I don't, they take everything to heart.

I use "lol" a lot, but I don't literally mean I'm laughing out loud (unless I say "I'm literally LOLing right now"). I use it to denote that my previous statement was meant to be humorous. With the whole "no body language and no facial expressions" thing we have going with the internet, we have to do something to let the reader know the proper tone the statement was meant to be read in.

^exactly. I use "lol" a lot when I am typing something that I think could have been taken as offensive. That way the reader sees "lol" and knows that i'm not trying to **** them off.

What would happen if you avoided using lol in the majority of your posts? Is it possible? So if I am saying something insulting to somebody but want to avoid angering them, I should just plop a lol at the end of the comment and all will be okay? Is that lol's importance? It seems to me to be an overly used, often meaningless term similar to inserting the word "like" throughout anything you are saying somebody.
