Not sure if any of you remember me...or more accurately care to remember me
I'm presently trying to trouble shoot one of our Niton XL3t's (google) via internet, using a BGAN system (super ridiculously expensive tiny satellite internet system). There hasn't been another military coupe since I've been in Madagascar, bandits are staying away from us since we have a lot of military with Kalishnikov's (AK-47's) with us. There hasn't been a machete attack within 100 meters of our camp in the past 4 days...that's 4 days machete attack free! Most people around where we are haven't seen a white person before, let alone a white person with 20% of his body tattooed, needless to say, I don't take my shirt of anymore 1. not to draw a crowd, and 2. not to scare women and children.
Despite the military coupe, and the machete attack (<---vigilante "justice") Madagascar is a relatively peaceful country, rain forest to the north, savannah to the south, great to travel for work, but I wouldn't recommend it for a family trip with young kids.
BTW, aid kills Africans...

Trust, I thought the movie would provide invaluable research...it didn't, but I could've bought a lemur the other day for $20 to add to my collection of endangered species.
Stein, not deployed, I'm a geologist. One of our clients has a project here. After troops, geologists are the next people into a country. Deposits are usually in the armpits of the world; the arctic, war ravaged countries, etc... Makes for good times.
So I finally got my Kalishnikov...unfortunately I don't think the military would've appreciated me wasting ammo into the side of my office, and the gun fire might not have gone over too well with the recent military coup.

Here's my xray gun, unfortunately it automatically shuts down the xray tube when xrays aren't reflected back (ie shooting through air) so if you want to bombard your friends with xrays you have to hold it against their skin.
