Then don't get a 7th+ gen.
Oooo oooo ooo! Get a 4th gen AWD wagon.

And dodge rules nothing. Ever.

Reaper, how old are you? This is not intended to be a condescending setup question, just trying to gauge why the insurance would be so high. It should actually be lower than it would be for the Mustang either way. Definitely shop around, I can't imagine that you would have to pay mor ethan ~$120/month for a used STi.

And yeah, my input is, of course, get the STi! As much fun as the wrx to sti conversion might be, it will NEVER be the same as just getting the STi in the first place. A local guy here tried that with an 06 WRX. Spent a silly amount of money on all the best parts, swapped in a 6-speed, and even then it just never felt the same.

The true beauty of an STi is that you are a wheel/tire change away taking it off road and into the gravel, dirt, snow, ice track, etc... Good luck doing any of that fun stuff in a Mustang

I'll be 21 in July, single/never married, and have one infraction on my record from December of '06, so I doubt it'll contribute to a higher insurance price. Like I said, I haven't really had a chance to shop around for insurance yet, but the two quotes I have for full coverage are about $200/mo and $260/mo. The biggest thing that's killing me on it is the fact that since it'll be financed, I'll be paying full coverage. Since the mustang is a v6, it's classified as a passenger car, not to mention I'm on liability with it, so that's why insurance on it is ~$70/mo.

I see what you're saying about the STi conversion, though. To be honest, the 6spd and appearance package are the only two things really selling the STi over the WRX for me. I'm still swaying back and forth between the STi and WRX, though. The WRX will be cheaper overall, but I think if I get one, I'll always regret getting it over an STi.

Oh, and some clarification since I didn't mention it earlier: I think a lot of you are under the impression I'm thinking about doing this now-ish; I'm planning on doing it (if I take the plunge) sometime during late summer or fall. I need money for a half-decent down payment and I need to be 100% sure I can afford payments, not to mention I have to sell the mustang first.

I love the way the STi drives, but I find them all as ugly as sin. In the race to build the ugliest vehicles, Subaru is at the top of the list...

OTOH, I like the way my 2006 Mustang GT looks but the novelty of going fast in a straight line has long worn off long ago...

Personally, I love the way they look. Especially slammed with the Cusco front lip, but like I said, if I get it, it's going to stay stock for a very long time; personally, I think I can live with a turbocharged AWD car producing 305bhp for a few years, even with the stock appearance package, suspension, and wheels.

Don't get me wrong, I love the mustang, but I just don't think it's worth what I want to do with it, especially given the reconstructed title. Before I sell it, it's getting new tires, rear wheel speed sensors, calipers, camber/caster plates, and a good alignment. It's not that I want to spend money on it, I just want it to be a good enough car to where I can get what I want out of it. I don't think I've mentioned it, but there's also going to be the extra income from selling what I can off of it (cobra front bumper, mach 1 chin, saleen shift ****, HID projectors, flash tuner, etc), as I'm returning to "as stock as possible" condition before selling it.

I think in the next few days I'll give a few insurance companies calls and see what the cheapest insurance I can get for a car I'm making payments on; I think insurance agents have a better idea of what exactly defines "full coverage" than I do.

^ hahaha that was funny haha i just read through this whole thing and for the most part everyones serious and then Mitch comes in and makes it funny at the end haha anyway sorry;

Reaper...after reading through this i can tell that u really wanna do this and get an STI so why not. My dad does it all the time with his trucks in fact he just bought a brand new Ram 1500 Laramie edition cause hes been looking at em and wanting one for forever now. My point is if its really what u wanna do then go for it mann. If ur budget is a lil tight at least its only for a year and like u said...u aint married and dont have any kids (that u kno about haha jk jk) and im asuming not a whole whole lot of bills so i say go for it. And i doubt ur insurance will be that much maybe a lil lower than $200 at most but im not an insurance representative so dont count on that info haha basically go with what ur heart tells u (as sappy and gay as that sounds).

(Plus id f@cking kill for any STI no matter what year it is so id go for that **** in a heartbeat lmao)
