Four Major Gun Safety Rules
1. Handle all firearms as if they were loaded.
2. Always keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction.
3. Keep your finger out of the gun’s trigger guard and off the trigger until you have aligned the gun’s sights on a safe target and you have made the decision to fire.
4. Always be certain that your target and the surrounding area are safe before firing.
Just an FYI, your trigger fingershould rest on the side of the pistol, not in mid-air and not on the trigger.

You left out 2 VERY important rules:
1.) Never point a weapon at a person unless you intend to shoot them
2.) Never shoot anyone unless you plan on KILLING them.
I am DEAD serious.

And don't always trust the employees at a shooting range. I was told to keep my finger NEAR the trigger at all times. Of course, I grew up in a family where my dad is a Sergeant of a police department and I learned gun safety a long time ago. My dad and I looked at him like he was an idiot.
