Ok so Here We Go.
ef's have cables eg's and up have hydro's. cable you have to adjust, hydro is self adjusting. but a cable has a better feel imo, because hydros have no real effort involved. since your doing the tranny swap you could probably go either way but hydro is factory on your car and would problably fit better with less fabrication.
Well the HG is going.....but remember my D is still an automatic.....and ive got some quotes from shops for the work on the tranny swap, and it just seems like too much money to gather all the parts and have the work done....I can throw in a few more dollars, get the 5 speed and a DOHC......then ill put my turbo on that and drive to let jeff tune it.........the only thing keeping me from getting tuned is my auto tranny, and leakyt head gasket......my d is getting near 100k and for the amount of extra money it would take to get the DOHC its worth it to me......because im looking at like 1600 for a trans swap, so swaping looks like a better idea, also considering ill have a lower milage motor.
Stage 1 Turbo short block build.
The short blocks make for a great daily driven car that will not exceed 300hp. as it uses stock sleeves.
Short blocks include, bore and power hone to the next size over stock, resurfacing the deck, block guard, hot tanking the engine, ACL bearings, micro polished crankshaft, CP forged pistons, SCAT H beam rods & professional assembly. $1800.00. (new oil pump extra)

Man I am going to tell you this. I could not count how many I know that have swapped in a B16 and hated that they did. It is just a over rated, over hyped engine. If you are going to swap go with a B20 block, GSR transmission, and a B18B head. Or hell just go with a B18B period as it is alot better turbo engine because the long stroke provokes alot better tq curve which you know as well as I do means more than peak hp numbers.
imo as long as its boosted (and it will be ) you will be faster than you are now stock z6- 126 hp stock b16 - 160 hp, so the turbo b sill have more power than a turbo d, simple fact. or build the d and kill the stock turbo b either way its your car.
