People who "like sports"
seriously ,though, I find alot has to do with being really LAZY. You got people that freaking BRAG about how lazy they are. WTF??? I'm at least twice most of your ages on here and I can tell you, it would be really easy just to let yourself go. Married, making a decent living, and FAT, don't necessarily have to go together. Life is WAY more than a video game but you have entire generation brought up that way. Look at the fat bastard kids in 3rd grade and up. Guys that cant do even ONE pushup or pullup. It's crazy! The whole mentality goes FAR beyond physical and is unfortunately etched into the mindset of people today. It's "Horaaay for me and F*ck You" all the way. So, enjoy watching the games on TV and being a wizard at some stupid video game while our country gets trounced by every other one in anything to do with athletics ( and we can't even win in the Video Game Olympics !! )

Nice soapbox rant. Just cause some people aren't active doesn't mean they can't be fans. Thats just like saying that you can't modify your car if you don't race it.
Get off your high horse, you're no better than anyone else.

Better than anyone else? Now that you mention it, I'll probably take fewer sick-days, be more productive over my working life, and cost society less for my healthcare in later years than the average schmoe. I also won't be misleading others, who may be seeking out like-minded individuals...But don't misinterpret this as me claiming to be Mother Theresa, the Dalai Lama, or the Great Saviour of the Galactic Empire. I'd just rather participate than spectate in life.

I never claimed to be, but I also never claimed to be a FAN, and neither do these people...until further investigation. I mean that them saying that they "like sports" is a bit misleading, unless they quantify it with "spectating only". It would be like me saying, "I like racing", rather than saying, "I like watching racing", when I've never been on a track. (I actually don't like either.)

As for the push-ups and pull-ups, I don't understand how an able-bodied, young, adult male can't do ONE of either. How can they not do ONE?! How sedentary do you have to be to get like this at the ripe old age of 18?! I saw guys show up for bootcamp like this! Some of the 25yr old recruits were running circles around them. Kudos to the ones who worked hard at trying to do something with their lives (I saw some guys work hard and drop as much as 85lb in 3 months! *WOW!*), but WTF happened to society to produce young "men" like this? (Some guys didn't seem to even TRY to improve at anything. Liabilities like this are often "weeded out".) We wonder why so many young people are so messed up and have self-esteem and other issues? They can't and won't DO anything for themselves that requires any real effort. Topping the craziness? I actually got ridiculed by several people I knew for participating in sports in H.S., and I wasn't even playing the typical "jock" sports of organized football, baseball, or basketball. I wasn't trying to go pro. I just loved to DO things. Many of these other people got into drugs and other "productive pursuits" over the years, and I no longer associate with them.
I think people in general like the idea of getting pleasure from the most minimal effort. And in the era we are in todaythings like the internet, video games, and fast food makes things quick fixes. It's not good and to be honest I'm a victim of it in many ways. Like for instance, whats the point in going to a library searching around for a book on turboing a car, that might not even be a good book or the right one for your car. When you can just sit back in a computer chair and go through all sorts of information from forums, online encyclopedia's or what have you, to get your info. which do you think the majority of people would choose?

Anyways, while there are a lot of out of shape kids, I don't feel that the problem is as bad as people make it out to be. I haven't noticed a ton of obese people in my area;the ones that are tend to be elderly anyways.Maybe it's just an isolated issue. Plus, its hard to play sports when you get older, I mean, yeah, if I could, I'd play football, baseball, and all the sports I love, but its hard to get a team together. The best I can manage is a couple guys to go play raquetball at the gym. I still maintain that I like sports though, since I used to play.

BTW, kids don't have to be obese to be ridiculously out of shape. Many thin people are out of shape, and this isn't even limited to kids or elderly really. I'm amazed at thin people like Paris Hilton, who can't even run 1/4 mile. My mom is in her mid 50s, and she can cover that easily. Even the guy who lost 85lb in bootcamp could run that far when he first arrived.
