Default Photoshop Equivalent?

Hi all.

I am somewhat proficent in photoshop( I took it for a year and a half in school). Well, I know I can download a trial of photoshop and use some sort of crack to get the full version, but the last time I did this, I got a virus and I had to reformat. And I'm done with downloading software illegally. Does anyone know of any sort of program that shares some of the features of photoshop but is a freeware? If you have anything, please help me out w/ the name of the program and possibly a link to the download. I wanna start "chopping".

there is not to many programs out that have anything even close to similar to items as in photoshop. you can go on download.com and look there for freeware or such. but really you are not going to find anything.

yes if you go to best buy or something you can also ask them and I am sure they have something similar. and I still can not think of any freeware around like it.

Elements will be your best bet. If you're still in school, you can get it cheaper through one of the educational software outlets.

Do you have an art school near you? Sometimes they hand out discs with photoshop and all on them. Full versions for students. Plus they are free. Check it out and see if you can snag one. That is how I got my copy.

Nah haha, if they did I'd be all over it like white on rice =P

But by May I will be getting my laptop that I'm going to take to college and I'm considering a MacBook Pro, if so then I will DEFINITELY get photoshop.
