Default So I'm adopting a dog...

I finally found a pure bred german shepherd puppy to adopt. Picking her up on the 30th. This is my first big dog. Are there any dog owners here to give me some advice on feeding, training and such. Oh, and here's a pic : http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?act...=0&tmpl=&stat=

Lol It will eat your house. I have a great dane... it pees like 6 times a day, and it craps like 3 times a day, it also consumes over 100 pounds of dog food a week and about 6-7 gallons of water a day. It will be a good dog to you since its female and g.s. happen to be on the top of the list for loyalty and with children. They are also one of the smarter dogs on the dog chain.
You should feed her at night around 6pm. That way it wont run around and have a full stomach and puke or get sick. Give it about 1 full dog bowl of dry dog food (I preferably use Iams lamb puppy chow for growing dogs) a night and of course always have water at hand. Giving her wet or moist dog food will turn her butt faucet on in a heartbeat and its not very good for them. Giving her alot of people food wont do much good to her steady diet if you stick to it. But once in awhile give it a treat. Dont beat it if it takes a crap or pees in the house. Only do so when you catch her in the act, spank her but dont tear her a$$ off. Pain registers with dogs very quickly, within a week you can house train her. Otherwise if you dont catch it in the act and beat it, it wont understand why you are hitting her.
Make sure she will be spaded, that way a male dog wont freak out if shes in heat and also it will spare you some nastiness around the house when she is in heat. Good Luck!

cool. of course it will never be as big as your great dane. So I should feed her only once a day? Oh with my previous dog, we fed her 2 times a day (springer spaniel). We took her outside twice a day, and potty trained her just as you have described. I know the basics, but there are certainly differences in treatment of big vs. small dogs. With that said, I think I'll just go to petsmart or something and buy a book

awesome dog...i want a bigger dog, but our homeowners association has a rule that dogs cannot be over 42 pounds. [:@]

so i have some stupid little rat dog that has recently decided to stop being housebroken.

people make fun of me because theyre not secure in their manhood, but i like my cats..and someday ill live somewhere where the neighbors cant tell me what kind of fence i can put up and what kind of dog i can have...and hopefully, my nice big Rot will eat this stupid little 'hybrid" runt.

it will be outside a lot, especially when it's warm. She will be able to go in the patio when it get too hot. Sounds like a good plan to me, until she is potty trained. So how many times a day should I feed her?

Thats why I said give her a decent sized bowl of dog food once a night, it will keep her weight down.
