Default srt-4

a buddy of mine is looking into getting an srt-4, but is being a little reluctant because he thinks they areproblematic cars, are hard to find parts for, andthinks there is something wrong with them since theywere only in production for 3 years...is any of this true??

Yes, srt-4's are very fast, but are unreliable modded. I have talked to numerous people that own them, and regret doing anything to them. Of course, srt-4 owners like to just up the boost (which you can do to a certain point and the ecu will adjust) but they keep going until they blow something. If you are looking to mod a car, don't go for one of those unless you're planning on doing lots of maintence.

but also realise that they can outperform mustang gt's stock...they are an amazing bang for the buck, and most of the horror stories you hear are because the owners are like , "yeah man, i'm upping the boost to 25 psi and using pump gas with no tune! I'm cool!"

SRT4's are easy high 13 second cars stock which will keep up with and nose past alot of the same year GT's that are stock. Also they are not unreliable from what I have seen, stock, modded, or built. But what you have is a bunch of asshats that get the car and treat it like crap then it takes a dump on them.

They are great for what they were made for and that is to take a beating, make good power, be really fast for the amount spent. But the resale is crap, not because it is a crappy car but because they are looked at as a Neon in the end....even though it is a totally different car with the same body panels. The SRT4 is what a 3rd Gen Eclipse GS-T would have been if they would have brought it out.

I've never seen one run a high thirteen, but i'm in texas and we have that thing called humidity. But yea I have two friends with them, and they didn't even just jack up the boost, they modded both nicely and they crapped out on them. They respond great to mods, and can be made fast, but in the end aren't reliable when you mod them.(this is going off of the people that have them, and what they've told me/witnessed)

I seen a 04 stock with no stg1 or 2 upgrades or anything with a drive out tag on it and a 17 year old girl(not saying girls cant drive a car fast just thought it was cool) run 13.80's at like 102-103mph. Also from what I seen on srtforums they are reliable. I actually about got one in 04 but opted out because I was saving to buy a 01/02 SS outright with no payments.
