my girlfriend has a 2007 yamaha r6, it sucks following her sometimes when she's on it. lol but she loves it it's a badass ride, i haven't gotten on a street bike, still need to mentally stable myself first. my friends pull off one of these when they hear about what she drives...

Yeah I know what you mean. Buddy of mine used to have an older gixxer 600 and I had a hell of a time keeping up with him even with the civic.

One of these days I'll get a bike, I really wanted to get one last year but I bought the Camaro instead. I'm into cars too much to get a bike.

I'm not a fan of the Ninjas. The new 250 is pretty nice and its the best starter bike on the market in my opinion. I have a '94 250. Its not too bad of a bike, kind of slow but easy to ride. There aren't too many 250CC bikes on the market, I could probably only think of a handful. Honda used to make a CBR250 in Europe. There is actuall a CBR125 in Canada which is a hell of a bike but they don't sell them here. Bikes aren't as expensive as you think. If you really don't care what you ride, pick up an old Ninja 250. If you've never ridden before, its a great bike because its super easy to ride and a good learner. You can pick them up pretty cheaply, I got my '94 for $650. If you want a good bike, you can pick up an 01-03 CBR600F4i for $3000-$4000. You can get the F3s but they aren't fuel injected. The prices should be the same for GSX-R600s, R6s, and the ZX6R of the same years. I've never been really interested in the other bikes so I don't really know the exact value for them. Insurance is a bitch on a 600CC sport bikes especially if you are a male under 25.

^ Yeah, everyone thinks bikes are so much more expensive than they actually are. I picked up my F4i for $4k in mint condition with 8k miles on the clock. Also, CBR600 F4's can be picked up for less than that, but the downside is they're carbed (other than that, they're pretty much the same bike as an F4i). And I'm an 18 year old male and my insureance is around $600/year... that's only liability though.

Ninja's aren't bad bikes, my friend has a 500R and loves it. It's not nearly as fast as my CBR, but it's more comfortable to sit on (banana seat as opposed to my split seat), and it doesn't look as sexy IMO, but it's not a bad bike at all.

I wouldn't get liability on a bike, especially on nicer bikes like the F4i. Bikes are too easy to steal.

I live in the middle of nowhere (population 2500) and my bike gets to sleep in the garage... I'm not too worried about it getting stolen. But when I get my next bike (probably a newer 600RR), I'm getting full coverage since I'm not going to be living at my parents' anymore (meaning no nice warm garage for my bike)

huh i was under the impression that ninjas were fast. guess not as fast as others.

bikes are cheap in comparison to cars. very cheap. but for as little metal youre getting, i suppose some may think that they are expensive.
however, for the thrill that they give, i consider them...priceless...lol.

The Ninja ZX series (6R,9R,10R,14R) are all very fast bikes, right up there with thier competition by Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha. The Ninja 250 and Ninja 500 are not that fast, especially compared to the super sport bikes. For the kind of performance you get out of motorcycle engines, you really get your moneys worth. My Ninja 250 revs to 12k+ RPM. Its gets 36HP out of a 250CC engine. By comparison, there are alot of lawnmowers that have around the same displacement and make less horsepower.

ORIGINAL: TheInternet I was all set to buy a used KLR-650...but I guess by chance or fate, I saw a 2001 Civic EX coupe for sale the same day on Craiglist and I got that instead...the Civic ended up being cheaper than the bike...Id still like to look around and get a KLR, maybe next year or something if a really good deal comes up...
Why the KLR, and not a DR or XR?

For those that think a bike is expensive to insure, call your agent for a quote on a smaller bike. Big sportbikes tend to be insane for insurance. A Ninja 250 or a DR-Z400SM "thumper" (or any small D/S or cruiser bike) should be REALLY cheap for liability though.

A "thumper" is a single-cylinder bike. The multi-cylinder Ninja 250 puts out better power for the street than most small bikes, but the thumpers tend to be VERY simple engines and very light bikes.
