tiptrionic
I personally never tried any good autostick/tiptronic/sequential shift before. Most likely because I never tried too many of them. I've tried the one on the Honda Prelude, Mazda 3, & Mazda 6. I didn't like any of them. There is definitely lag in between shift. It doesn't get into gear as fast as if you were driving a manual transmission. It's nothing like a real manual tranny on those cars that I mentioned above.
I've never personally tried it but I heard that the BMW SMG transmission on the M3 is almost or just as good as the one on the Ferrari.

i gues sim the "yay"? while i liek my car, it is my daily driver, and my big hp car is also sort of an autostick (automatic with a built manual valve body). but even the the autostick gives you some of the feel of a stick, you dont have the ability of the mtx. also, the weight of the internal workings of the ATX are far heavier than the MTX, thus eating up more power, which im sure you knew. you also dont have the launch rpm options. my car will launch around 2200 with the stock TC, and my old car will launch around 3600, but that is an expensive built tranny.
i will close with this...my car stock, with a mtx ran 15.7-15.9 in MT, my car with work done to it, is running 16.1-16.2, which is why i wish that i had gotten an MTX, but due to some knee problems, it wasnt an option at the time.

Even the one in my dads Range Rover blows, and that son of a bitch has a 4.6 BMW 7 series V8 with the worlds most advanced mass produced auto tranny. Also when you put it in sport mode if you dont shift by like 7 grand it will do it for you... what the hell! Its a damn bimmer engine, it should do more than that! Oh well, it still hauls *** for what it is.

Now, I dated a chick that had a slightly older A4 1.8T, with tiptronic. I didnt like that one at all, it just sorta had a mind of its own. My suggestion, is to take it for a test drive, and do a couple regular street driving passes, then go somewhere and hammer it harder than you ever think your going to. If you're satisfied with the results, buy it. But if you're not fully satisfied with it, than you should probably look into taking another avenue.
The way i see it, when it comes to cars, never "settle." Don't jump on the first good deal you get (I can say this from experience[:@]), cause chances are you'll never be fully happy with it. I shopped around for a long *** time before i bought my civic. I ended up paying a little more than it was "worth," but worth is in the eyes of the beholder IMO. I waited, and passed up a few fairly good deals that, had i not had the ****ty experience with the jetta, i might have jumped on. But now, i can't tell you how happy i am that i held out. Just some food for thought...
