U S News and world report,may issue
See the article on " hot new high-mileage cars. "drivers try downsizing" Covered is the toyota yaris, honda fit, hyndai accent, nissan versa, and chevrolet aveo. They interviewed a man from Indianapolis who traded in his chevrolet suburban for a honda fit. It seems people are getting fed up with big vehicles that can't be parked just anywhere and now gas mileage. It seems the japanese car makers already had these models in production but in countries where gas has always been expensive. it was cheap and easy to retrofit them for the U.S. market just as the gas prices went up. The U.S. makers say it takes three years to field a new car, that is from conception to dealer. This is why they are all tauting their big gas guzzlers with 500 horsepower at the auto shows, thats all they have. Of the five covered in the article I would pick the honda first, the nissan second and none of the rest at all. The toyota is under powered and too small. Besides it looks like a cartoon car, not good. The chevrolet aveo is korean made.
this is topic that most people on here don't really care about, because most of us already drive fuel efficient cars.
try going to a dodge/chevy/ford site and posting the link. you'll get an earful. lol.
we talk about this stuff all the time at autoweek.

I owned one and I'll never own another one. Look up 'kia troubles' on the net, pretty scary stuff from kia owners. The one I like is the right front brake locked up at highway speed and spun the car around, drive one if you like but I value my life more than that.
I tried a chevy avalanche forum in '02 when I had an avalanche. I was asking about brake problems, if anyone else had stopping problems, their response was to drive slower. So I don't think I want to have a conversation with any more of them. Turns out the brakes were too small for the size of that vehicle and was redesigned in '04, nice huh?
Yaris is just as underpowered as the Fit....
Yaris - 106hp, 103 ft-lbs
Fit - 109hp, 105 ft-lbs
All these economic car comparisons keep leaving out the Scion xA and xB, both proven reliable cars and great mpg. Also a product of Toyota.
I plan on either buying the Fit or xA near the end of this summer, but dealers are overpricing the Fit over the sticker by quite a bit is what I've been hearing.

Hmm, I must admit, I like honda Fit for some reason. Even though it looks like complete POS. IDK whether I will start worrying about gas prices much. I guess they will start drilling for oil in Alaska pretty soon. Then we can say F*** you to the middle east and our gas prices should drop. If this happens, I already know what kind of project car I'll be getting - a '91 BMW 325i.

i would still rather have the fit that than the yaris, i mean i think that even though it maybe a little under powered i think that it looks ok. and the way gas has been going up i would welcome lower mpg. besdies you can always make up smaller power with mods
