Upgrading Ram ?
Hey guys. I have an Emachines t2895 and I'm wanting to upgrade the ram. I'm going to take it to the maximum, 2gb. From what I've gathered I need 2, 1gb 184-pin PC2100. My question is, Does it have to be pc2100? Couldn't it be pc2100 or any after like 2300 2700 3100 ect?
You won't see the benefit of using anything faster than PC2100. Although the higher speed RAM (PC2700, PC3200, etc) will fit/work with your motherboard, it will slow itself down to PC2100 since that's the max speed your motherboard supports.
And using two sticks of memory is the way to go. This allows the DDR (Dual Data Rate) feature to be enabled, increasing your performance further. Two sticks of 1GB will perform better than 1 stick of 2GB.

Brenden is right, you wont see any benifit from it per say but i know you can get pc3200 for cheaper than 2100, i would get whatever is the cheapest since all faster mem will just run at the slower speed the mobo needs.
Something like this will prob suit your needs well:
PC3200 $95

PC2100 $104

hate to make a new thread, but i've got a vgn-fe660g sony vaio. it's got a centrino duo core with a gig of ram, i was wondering if upgrading to 2x 1gb sticks will void my warranty (best buy warranty). plus, i was wondering if it would considerable boost my performance with the duo processor. has anyone upgraded from 1 to 2 GB on a Duo?
The memory boost will definatly help especially if you are running Vista. It shouldn't void your warranty, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Another thing you could do if you ever have a problem with the computer is save the orginial RAM. If it breaks, swap the original RAM back in and no problem. As long as there isn't a seal on the case to make sure you don't open anything, everything should be golden.
