US government is now ruining our rights!
I think everyone is overreacting. They're preventing something that kills people...seriously, omg you can't go 30 over now. You shouldn't be doing it anyway so who cares.
There's been a discussion raging over on cbrforum about this for a while now. For bikers, it's not just going 30 over. It's anybody caught stunting, too (and contrary to popular belief, not all stunters are f**king retards. Is pulling up the front wheel on an open (read: no cars) stretch of road as bad as doing a highchair wheelie in heavy traffic?). The problem with this is that 90% of people stunting on public roads are just going to open up the throttle and run; running on a bike capable of 170+ mph is a little more dangerous than stunting or going 30 over. And I can see a lot of people getting pulled over for this just getting out of jail and driving/riding without a lisence.
And for anybody who's never ridden a sportbike (and I'd assume most other bikes are like this too), you don't realize how easy it is to speed without even realizing it. I've already looked down at the speedo on my cbr to realize I was 20 above the speed limit... 75 or 80 on a bike feels more like 50 or 55 in a car.
Anyway, I'm sure now that it's passed in florida, virginia will piggy-back it, followed shortly by cali.
It's laws like this that makes me glad the town I live in has three cops and two cruisers
*edit: oh, and mybrokenblinker, look at it this way... drunken drivers get basically a slap on the wrists and a "dont do it again". Speeders lose their license for 10 years and get their car taken away. Which kills more people annually?

reaper, that's like complaining that murder is worse than robbery, so we shouldn't punish robbery. I'm not saying that the punishment for other stuff shouldn't be steeper, i'm just saying i have no problem with this particular law. I agree, the punishment for drunken drivers should be MUCH steeper.

actually there is a high number of people driving over the speed limit. you dont need a statistical data to prove that. Just go on the highway and hit 55 and see how many cars are passing you. Most of these people are all good american citizens, moving on with their daily lives. There are lot more us that are not criminals than there are of us that are criminals. So someone going like 70mph on the free way, which is about normal and the flow of traffic, should not be serving ten year prison time. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY VIOLATING OUR RIGHTS! How is it you ask? Well here it is
"Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."
-Amendment VIII
This is a very cruel punishment for such a minor offense. These florida representatives have violated our basic rights. The US government is worried about dictatorship and communism and the world not being free, when they themselves are making totalatarian rules.

Read what you wrote and than consider the voting population of florida... you'll easily see that "Grannies driving 25 on the freeway" are ruling that state. Nothing really surprising. Same goes for VA, and CA is just ran by greenpeace and morans.
