I wanted to know what you guys were driving in before jumping in a Civic.


For me , I used to hate Civics with a passion..I think a majority of it was because of the sudden Fast and Furious fame that sprung out in 2001. I had an Accord back then , and I had never really driven or rode in a Civic for the matter but I guess I took a strong dislike because of the 'ricey' parts and the typical stereotype of a Civic owner.

So the story of me turning into a Civic fan goes like this:

Last summer my gfs old Escort was destroyed by me engine overheated and a about a month later in the shop they declared it dead. Engine block was no good. So I stayed around with my gf letting her drive my Accord and what not. Soon enough October rolled around and it was a definite time to find another car.

So we searched around and found a MX6 it was a beautiful coupe...V6 mated to a 5spd..and man that thing pulled so fast I was in heaven..so she attempted to take out a loan only to find out that the car had a salvage title..so it was on to the next..I tried convicing her to get an Accord like mine but she wasn't having it.

A couple weeks later we spotted the 98 Civic , beautiful color Azure Metallic Blue with a 5spd and a moonroof ( a rare combination from what I've heard) 136k with a clean record. She test drove it..and then soon after I did I told her to get it and she wouldn't be dissappointed.

Almost a year later with very minor problems ( a major one being a leak from the moonroof resulting in carpet replacement) it still runs great and I maintain it along with my truck (which Im selling sometime in the future).

Something about the Civic sparked my immediate interest...as much as I loved my Accord ( I gave it to a junkyard earlier this year R.I.P) it was time to try something new although I have a 95 Ford Ranger and although the stereotype of a Civic owner is way out there I am dead set on obtaining a hatch.


I'm going to the dark side.[8D]

 

I've had two cars. A civic and a civic. I've driven LOTS of cars though and still smile when I get back in my civic.

Oops, guess i never really answerd your question... I bought the first one for the HUGE amount of aftermarket support, the Honda reputation, resale value, gas mileage, spunk, bunch of reasons. I had that one for just over 5 months when someone decided that it should be very smashed up. Then I bought another one cause I loved it so much. Almost bought and Eclipse... soooo glad I went with the civic instead. The one I have now is MUCH nicer than the other one too.

 

well i didn't think i would ever get a civic eather because they were so popular..but after my sunbird broke down, i wanted a little fun reliable car that had alot of options for modding and i did have lots of money ,only about 6,000 or so..so i was looking for a 92-95 civic with lots of km and a good body, standerd and not red (my old car was red) and i was gunna do a swap after i got it..but my parents called a honda dealership that my gradparents recintly (at the time ) got a suv from and see what they had and whats the best deal i could get, they came up with a 00 civic dx 5 speed for 11,400 (canadian) and my parents gave me the extra money..i was kinda rushed into the deal because i needed a car right away but im glad i did,..im still paying the car back, i only own about $1,800 (canadian) left!!! and hopefully be paid right after christmas time then save up for rims and all my other crap before spring

 

Me too. Although the first one was my parents' car, it wasn't really "mine."

My friend was selling it. I needed a car. Zing.

p.s. I know that's ^ a lame answer, but I know I made a good decision

 

Economy. You heard right, se7en wanted economy. Once the speed bug bit, it didn't let go. My desire for a car that ran 11s far outweighed my desire for economy very quickly.

 

well i used to hate civics. i know i know. it was just cause everybody had them. but both my sisters drive accords and honda has awesome reliability and they last forever. not to mention over 35mpgs! and i found the si and it looked so clean and drove beautiful so i forgot about my hate and got it. now i cant believe i didnt like them.

 

this is my first car(95 ex). i didnt buy it or anything, it was a "hand-me-down" from my bro. my parents decided that the car is still in great shape so that when he bought a new car i'd get the civic. he bought a brand new 2005 accord coupe v6 about 8 months ago and thats when i got the civic. i love it and wouldnt trade it for anything else. best first car i could ask for.

 

The last vehicle I had before the civic was/is a 98 Jeep Cherokee Sport (still own it, at the shop getting fixed for winter), I was actually at the bank getting money to buy another Jeep, another 98 Cherokee. I saw the Civic, test drove it and had to have it.

 

Got mine to save on gas at the time i was driving a 68 Fleetwood.

 

I had a '00 Trans Am. A '94 Trans Am before that, and a '94 Camaro before that one. I guess I was just bored of having basicly the same car for 12 years. I just wanted an inexpensive car that's good on gas. I don't think I would have considered the Civic until the '06's. I was just very impressed with them. The quality blows away the past cars I've had. I guess I miss the HP a bit, but that's what the bike is for. NO car feels fast in comparison.
