AND the insurance is more than half as much on a 600.
Good call. I might peep one of those too. Yamaha anythings are sweet. I'm still debating between cruiser and sport. I have a long journey to make a few times a year so I'm trying to figure on comfort, maneuverability, and style a bit. The r1 is the only model I've seen the Raven Blacks in. Do you know if they make it for r6? Thanks.

What made me get a Civic: Good sense... and being a mechanic.

What made me get and build 5 more: Good sense... and being a mechanic.

Man I love being right.

Here's both of them, I like the looks of the R6 better. Although watch out for the '07 R1.

my main reason for buying my civic was gas prices and cheap upgrades readily available!!!!!!!!

im used to driving large heavy vehicles

my 95 fullsize chevy truck. horible typical 16mpg..
my realy old 66impala... more like 14mpg... i liked to smoke the tires

i bought a little 86crx for my winter beater last year and the 36mpg kicked @ss..... but it was a turd with no modern comforts.... rusted preaty bad and not to mention could be a death trap in a wreck!
so instead of repairing it.... i just sold it and bought my 99 civic ex shortly after... and loved this car since then!

i think the best part about a civic is they are realy easy to modify and cheap to do so as well......

hell to drop my truck it was gonna cost me quite a bit for alot of parts
tho i still love my truck and all BUT i got to be real with gas prices as they are! and you all know its not gonna get any cheaper!!!!

when i first bought my civic i was happy with it, it was a manual like i had always wanted my 1st car to be, the only downside to it was it was a 4dr, but that doesnt stop me i can still give it a unique look, im very satisfied with the gas mieleage and after i got my tune-up i have been extremely impressed =), very reliable car as well i believe it will last me a longgg timeee.... i plan to to get anotehr civic for my next car and maybe a bike as well

Buying you own car was a tricky problem back then in the Soviet Union. Cars cost starting from three years worth of average salary, and they were not available freely. One had to be on waiting list for years to get an opportunity to buy a new Russian-made car. And no import whatsoever. So I was driving a motorbike and used my father’srussian made "Lada"occasionally.

Then “perestroika” came, and by the end of it we found ourselves surrounded by cheap Japanese second hand import. Pure JDM, right hand steering. Those cars, being mainly 5 to 10 years old, were still a next generation cars comparing to new Russian ones. And they were cheaper.

By that time I had a decent job, and I started to look for the car for my family. I liked Honda City, they were cute little wagons with turboed 1.3L engine, and they were dirt cheap. I looked at many, some were really decent cars, but somehow I just could not pull the trigger. Once the seller suggested I look at the Civic he had. Man, I fell in love with this JDM Si at the first glance, no matter it was twice as expensive. They cheated on me dearly, this was 84’, and I bought it as 90’, and I still think it was worth it.

This car served me for many years to come, it became a friend and a family member. It never broke on me when I needed it. I finally sold it, long after I moved to US, when its heavily rusted body started to fall apart - Moscow winters are really harsh on cars. And other than rusted body, all the rest worked fine, except rusted A/C. This is not to say I did not do anything to this car. I did, and I did quite a few things, but they were either normal for the age (like brake pads or clutch replacement), or caused by my ignorance or negligence.

It had about 100K miles on odometer when I bought it, but I think this was cheating, too. With all my current experience with Hondas I would say it had at least 150-180K miles at the moment I bought it. And I drove it for another 80K.

This is the car I have on my avatar, I took a picture on the day I sold it. And since then I buy onlySi's for my personal use.

Ive owned:

1992 Ford Tempo
1991 Mitsubishi Galant VR4
2000 Nissan Sentra
1988 Honda Civic
1989 Honda Civic
1988 Honda Accord
1993 Honda Accord
2000 Honda Civic.

The Hondas have all been fantastic cars. I got my current Civic when my 1993 Accord started giving me trouble at 275k miles. It over heated and I put a thermostat on it. It was fine after that. My friend was trading the 00 civic in for a Saturn Vue. She said the dealer was offering her 5k for it. She said she wanted 6k. I told her I would have cash in 2 days and paid 6 k for my car. I got a screaming deal on it. I ran the ACV on it recently and its still worth close to 8500 on the private market. Thats with 120k and good condition.

I got my current ride because I needed a car. I wanted something reliable, lower kms, good gas economy, etc. After shopping around a little I found my baby. 1997 EX sedan, 107,000kms. absolutely AMAZING shape, considering the year! It was owned by an elderly couple and the guy was a freak about maintaining it. He did the full 1000,000 km service at abou 80,000km, and then had it all gone over once again before he sold it. I LOVE IT...just wish I had the Y8 motor. Oh well, I'm workin on that part!

For me, it was a need for a new ride when my LeBaron exploded. Much like some of the other members here, I'd hated Civics for the rice factor and the FnF craze.

My credit was getting pretty decent and I had a good job, so I'd gone to a few dealerships in the area to find out what I should be driving. I'd test driven a 5-speed '99 Accord and loved it. But for some reason or another, I'd gotten declined on my application. The salesperson told me that I'd have better chances getting approved on a new car, so I'd looked at the Civic, with that being the cheapest new car Honda made. I'd also scoped out the Corolla and the Elantra. I was impressed with both, but I got approved faster, and with a much lower down payment at the Honda dealership.

Plus, I'd posted here for 2-3 months before buying the car, and found that this forum had a bunch of friendly people with loads of good advice to hand out, so I figured why the hell not.

And so, that's how my Civic ended up in my driveway.
