wow
theres no correction in jail...people have to become bigger and better criminals in jail just to survive. I'm by no means a criminal, but if i ever somehow got put in jail for a long time, im pretty sure i would just join a prison gang because it seems to be the best way to stay safe.

i don't know what they do in russia at that age when you're bored...
but when i was 15, my friends and i didn't go around beating on homeless people when we were bored... we went to the local court and played some hoops... or some football at the local park... or did something of that nature....
and i grew up living in a rough neighborhood

Again, if we were judging this from eye for an eye point of view (if you don't like r-word
), the only feasible answer would be death sentence…

Yeah, I also think minors can't be sentenced to death in many countries. I was not advocating the death sentence, though, I was trying to make a point that there is no real difference between 15 or 22 years or whatever other number one picks here. Either number is not going to satisfy any of the possible punishment goals....

I think you are right. And that's why I frankly don't see a point in discussing how many years they will spend behind the fence. Be it 10, 20 or 30, it will be enough to convert those guys into professional criminals. Since in reality there is no correction involved, things at hand are revenge and isolation. And only death or life imprisonment will satisfy those...

At my dad's facility, inmates can play any sport that people on the outside can. Hell, they even make an outdoor ice rink in the winter so that they can play hockey, and guess what, no one has EVER been stabbed with an ice skate. Why? Because no one wants to ruin the fact that they can go out and get some decent excersize. The even bring in the Soo Greyhounds once a year to play against the inmate team.
Now, I'm fully expecting the onslaught of arguements saying "**** that, they're in prison they don't deserve that crap, blah blah blah.." Fact of the matter is, you can either lock someone up in a room for ten years, and let them plot their next move as soon as they get out. Or you can keep them busy, teach them new skills, and give them an outlook on life that shows what they are really missing on the outside. It's those inmates that come out with a new view on life in general, and typically do what they can to be a rule abiding part of society.
