Default $695 Timing Belt?

My 97 Civic just went over 100,000 miles. I called the dealer and he quoted me $695 to replace the timing belt. He said in included a new water pump. Is that the normal price. Seems kind of high to me.

i had my first civic's timing belt changed 10 years ago for $600 along with some routine maintenance.

it was a bargain because if your belt breaks, you're screwed.

broken valves smashing into piston crowns when your belt breaks isn't a pretty sight.

and get your timing belt changed every 60,000 miles, not 100,000.

The dealership will end up changing the timing belt, the water pump and all the accesory belts too. IF your serious about getting this done, i can possibly get you the parts for cost.

Man I feel lucky I didn't have a clue what the prices was. I got my d16z head, vtec wireing harness, water pump, timing belt , oil change, and new antifreeze for $200 installed. I may have forgot something but he did my whole mini me swap. Now he is selling me a stage one clutch and flywheel installed for $150. He is a good friend that works for honda and love to work on them for his friend and I guess for cheap. But I don't mind that. Knowing what I know now. I should take him out to eat or something.

Yeah He lets me do alot of hands on stuff and help because I don't know alot about working on cars. I also learn alot here and I ask stuff before I go over there on here so I some what know whats going on. Ever now in then he will say (how did you know that. I thought you was learning not telling me this stuff before we start) and I reply hondacivicforum.com and he says well it's sounds like they know there **** and he doesn't say that about anyone. He's one of those guys that reads all the books at honda and take ever class he can when they offer them.
