Ok, my car will be running fine then it will just die out. It won't cut off but the engine will get real loud, the engine light will come on, and it will start going really slow. Its like the transmission shifts real low so i won't blow the motor or some of the cylinders are cutting out or something? I have checked the coolant and it is fine, but i do smell a burning smell. The only thing i can think of is that its going into some shutdown mode so that i won't do anymore damage to the car. Does it have a "shutdown mode"?

Its happened 3 times now, and i will just cut it off, give it 15 to 20 mins to let it cool off and then it will run fine until the next time. After the first time it took a month or two for it to happen again. The second time it has only taken 2 weeks until today when it happened again.

The first time we had the a/c on and we were going from dealership to dealership. The second time no a/c, windows down, going up an over pass, and then today a/c on but going down a flat road.
