Default 03 honda civic ex temp help!!

i have a 03 honda civic ex 1.7L(auto trans) 189k miles on it. Im very persistent on maintenance and such, but i cant seem to understand what the problem is with my temperture guage. this is the very first time ive ever seen this happened, after driving it on a road trip for about an hour and a half @70mph the temperture starts to rise to almost hot, i usually have to pull over and let it cool down, or completely stop all electronics in my car meaning(aux plugin w/ my ipod, gps charger). ive had the car for over 3 years now and this is the first issue ive had with it. i just had it checked, complete oil change. if anyone has any suggestions it would be really nice of you.

Check that the cooling system is full. You need to wait until the engine is cold then uncap and look in the radiator, it should be full to the top. Checking only the white plastic tank doesn't tell the whole story.
