Default 04' Civic: New Key...Re-program?

I just purchased a 2004 Civic, and it only came with one key, and that one is not a Honda key. The key must be chipped because it starts the car. I went to the dealer yesterday, and they want $25 for a spare key plus $40 labor to re-program the ignition, or whatever they need to do.

Does anyone know how to reprogram the key the same way the dealer does it? I would like to do it myself. I don't want to end up paying $65 just to have a spare key, although when I loose it it will be worth it!

Thanks in advance,

FifeDog

Has no one here tried this before? Typically someone (like myself) refuses to pay the dealer the $75 to get a new key programmed. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Brian

$75 isnt that bad the dealer here wants $100 and the local key shop wants $80.So no you dont have to get the key from the dealer you need
to finda key shop that can program keys and get them your ECU code from the dealership.
