Hey folks,

I own an '08 Honda Civic with 47k miles on it. Title's a salvage because it was rear ended, mechanic I trust checked it out and tells me the internals were never modified. Car has drived perfectly until now.

This morning, when I turned the key for the ignition, I started hearing a sound that sounded like the engine trying to turn: a slow "Whirrr.. whirrr.. whirr.." along with clicking sounds and at certain intervals there were several clicking sounds in rapid succession.

The electronics inside the vehicle are working, IE the lights turn on and so forth. I'm inclined to believe this is a problem with the alternator or battery but I'm certainly not a car expert.

Anybody know what this problem could be?

Sounds like a weak battery. Try jump-starting from another car. If it's manual transmission you could try to roll-start it.

Once it does start, measure the voltage at the battery to confirm the charging system is working.
