Default 175000 miles on civic lx i want to increase hp

i just bout a 94 civic lx with 175000 miles on it i want to make it a nice ride with some xtra horses but im not sure what i should doffirst as far as maintanence theres probaeley no sense in getting intakes if the engine needs to be overhauled or reconditiponed or whatever any suggestions on what i should do first to make my car a solid platform for adding things? ops the trasmission shifts hard into 2nd gear will a flusinh help or do i need to lookinto replaing it all togher

A fluch may help but it may make it worse but if it makes it worse then you have no choice but to replace also as far as more power exhaust and intake maby an afc to tune the fuel maps and plugs with performance wires with some msd ignision then slap a turbo on and rebuild it. Its all about flow air and fuel. Also you could do some weight lightening not bringing you more power just freeing it up by not makeing it work so hard.

ive got a d16y8 swap for sale that bolts right up to that
(head and intake mani)
from 00 civic ex 58k

i believe that adds 25-30 hp

No offense, Larson, but this is not good advice.

GSeven, what kind of budget are you working with and can you do any of the work yourself? A quality rebuild is going to be as much as/more than the motor is worth. And if you were gonna rebuild something, I would try to find an Ex motor first and either swap the whole thing or go through all of your seals/gaskets/belts while you do a Mini-Me head swap.
