Okay, back to square one... I checked the timing belt alignment, and it is right on... so the belt did not jump... I put everything back together and it still turns over and wont start. So, tomorrow, I am going to give one more shot - I will check the plugs for spark again, do the compression test, and also pull the fuel filter to check for flow. If I dont get it started tomorrow I guess that I will call for a tow and try to guess at a good service station. Being in CT, I am not sure I want to tow it to a Honda dealership. I still think that it is something small and electrical, but just hard to identify. I just worry about the mechanics that enjoy changing parts until it finally works. sigh...

Have a great weekend! thanks for the support!

chk the distr rotor make sure it did not spin off the shaft (screw came loose ),, i have seen it numerous times also ,,you might have a bad ignitor or coil seen either of those go bad a lot as well..
but first thing first you need to chk to see if you are getting any spark,, if NO SPARK ,, test the ingitor and coil

Sorry for my absence. It has been a busy couple weeks. Today I checked for spark and nothing. I opened the distributor up and took out the ignition coil. I tried checking for ohm reading like the book suggested but I was nowhere near the specs they had. So I decided to go stop by autozone and pick a new one up. When I got back home I thought I'd compare Ohm readings but they seemed to be similar. Only thing I noticed that was really different was the tower spring on my old one was quite bent whereas my new one is nice and straight. Perhaps it all came down to the spring... maybe not. Threw it in and it fired right up. Thanks for the help.

Hello Fred! sorry for the real late post... I hope that you have had luck with your issue... and as for mine, well I got a little depressed after I did the compression test the following day... I started from right to left (4 to 1). and the first 3 cylinders were very low - 75 or so, and finally number 1 was 0!! A dead cylinder! I am curious about your comment that a mechanic friend said that the car can lose compression when it sits for awhile... but has he ever heard of the cylinder going to 0 compression??! So, to make a story short, I am now searching for a replacement engine which I will be changing out... I am waiting for a response from a local person that posted on one of our local craigslists, and hopefully it is still available... if not, I did check Ebay and there were a few Japanese imported engines available. Maybe this is another topic for discussion... has anyone else replaced their 1.5 with one of the Japanese imports that are available on Ebay? They sound like a good deal (40-60 k on them)... but anyway, I am looking forward to doing the changeout within the next month or so... I am thinking of posting some pics for the forum.

have had an issue - but did not decribe it in this thread - it is solved.
i ran into a guy that bought one of those japanese engines - he put about 3,000 into his honda
(i am in texas).

0 compression in one cylinder - it is not going to start.
you can rebuild it in the car - have recently completed mine.
new timing belt - rings, valve guide oil seals and i needed a couple of valves.
i did the head work, but if you take it to a head shop, they will do the valve guide oil seals and any valves if needed.
think you can do rod and main bearings - rod for sure. i did not to save money and they were ok and i was lazy.
good luck

i ran into that trouble 3 years ago i re built my whole head and it still wont crank i dont really know what it could be but when that happend to me it was because i had real bad plug wires only, but in your case im pretty sure its the distributor, see if you got any friends that drives civic with the same motor let you use theres to try it might just be a bad igniter or coil pak let me know something

amadahbee said that he is going to check for spark again.
guess that means that he has checked once - and he has spark.

Hey Fred! sorry for the delay again... we moved the car into the garage tonite and started to disconnect the engine... I am supposed to get an engine lift tomorrow and on Saturday I am hoping to check out a local seller that has one of the D15B7 engines. He says that he removed it on a swap and it has about 130k on it... ours has 175k which is probably still very good for that engine. I am curious to what he is leaving on the engine, but I am sure that most of our engine parts will fit. Once the engine is out, I am hoping to pull the head off and check that dead cylinder for worn rings or a crack in the block. I change the head gasket on it about 2 years ago when it overheated but it has never overheated since, but it was starting to burn oil... so either way, it is either due for a rebuild or a complete change! good luck on your project...
