Default 1993 Door Handle Replacement Problems!!!

After finishing the reinstatement of the door handle on my honda civic (FR), it seemed everything was fine. However as pleasing as handle looked i was unable to get my latch to properly work even after connecting it properly. On further inspection i found the base of the leaver mechanism were a rod with an eyelet had a small connecting screw through it. I figured that the problem was the rod was not being pushed far enough down and so i adjusted, however after trying again i found that it still wouldn't work.

Could someone please help?!!

Has the rod become bent? Does the latch work freely if you push directly on the rod by hand?
