Default 1993 Hatch Muffler Help

Hello, New to the forum. Just bought a 1993 Civic DX Hatchback for my son. One of the things it needs is a muffler. It looks like the previous owners muffler broke off because a short piece of pipe was still bolted to the remaining exhaust. So, I found a stock muffler on craigslist that they say was off a 92 civic. I went out and got it (nice shape for $15 and even has honda sg-505 stamped on it ) and brought it back to intstall. The broken piece that I had taken off is the exact same size as the one on the muffler I have but it seems like the muffler it self is just a tad too long and the tail pipe is about 6" longer than it shoud be. Everything looks like it should line up but is just a tad too long from the actual muffler back. So, my question is...what do I have? Do I have a muffler that is maybe from a coupe or four door? If I can identify what I have I can maybe find someone to trade with or sell it outright to get one that will work. The acual length dimensions are...from the bolt on part up to the actual muffler is 16", the muffler itself is 13-1/2", and the tail pipe is 13" long. Please ask if you have any questions or ideas or maybe there is a trick to installing this thing. Thanks, Chumpman

Chumpman,

I think your su****ions are correct. checking both a honda parts list and also rock auto, the hatchback muffler is a different model #.

For the OEM list, the 92 DX models use: either 18030-SR1-A20 or 18030-SR4-A20 while the 93 DX Hatch uses 18030-SR0-A20

The same is true for rock auto. the non-hatchback 92 models use: 18222 while the hatchback model for both 92 and 93 models use 18469

so it looks like you got a muffler for a non-hatchback

Hey, Thanks alot for the info. I really appreciate it. Hopefully I can either find someone to trade with me for one that will fit or maybe I can double what I paid for it on craigslist. Thanks again.
