1995 honda civic hatchback idle problems

When you take the valve off again, also clean the passages in the throttle body where it attaches.
As the others noted, you can read the codes yourself using a jumper wire. If the light isn't coming on now you don't really need to though you should clear them (with the key off, disconnect the battery or pull the BACK UP fuse under the hood) so any new codes can be identified.

seems like still a bit of a problem, the idle seems to be ok now, the CEL light now still comes on after car warms up and then i let it idle. No problems with anything and all gauges are good. Once I turn off the car, it stays off for rest of day until it completely cools down. I know you can put the jumper on the connector, but when i turn the car off, the light is out, so no code. Most of my experience is with OBD2 stuff and I have a adapter for my laptop. Seems nobody wants to fool with my civic unless they are changing parts.

It's a common problem that the OBDI ECU loses the CEL code after the engine is shut off. The next time the CEL turns on, leave the engine running while you jump the connector.

thanks again to all, the idle problem seems to be cured, but the CEL still comes on once warm and i let it idle. Just got done working 16 hours so gonna sleep, and tomorrow will clean out intake ports where IAC valve goes, then access CEL code while engine is running. Didn't know you could do it while running. Will keep you posted, and thanks again to all
