1996 Civic Died and wont start
Hi all, first post here and i need some help! My wife has a 1.4 1996 Honda Civic, 63000miles, fully serviced, but last week it cut out and wouldn't start. It got towed to our local garage who could not find anything wrong. There is a spark at the plug, fuel is getting to the injector rail, but when you turn it over it wont start. I then got it towed to a Honda dealer, for sure they will fix it! Well a full day later, bits in bits out, blown fuses and they dont know whats wrong with it. As the Honda dealer is charging an arm and a leg, i have had to tell them to stop as i cant afford to pay them any more. So result is, i have to pay Honda for a car that still doesnt work. They thought it might have been the immobilisher but have now ruled that out, their last shot was a loose wire in the engine compartment.
Anyone out there got any ideas?
Cheers, Andy

Something else to check is the timing belt. A timing belt should be replaced every 60k to 80K. If the belt were to jump a tooth it would not start but would still have spark and fuel. And I agree - a compression test would be a good thing to do.
Thanks for the advice. Things have moved on a bit from yesterday. I spoke to the service manager at the Honda garage (he had been on holiday) and he had spoke to the mechanics that were working on the car, the service manager seems to be the guy that makes the garage tick and is sure that the problem lies in the wiring loom. The wire that feeds the immobiliser may have become broken, causing a short in the electrics which in turn shuts down the immobiliser. I will update you all when the car starts again.
Andy.

Sorted! It was a broken wire in the loom causing the immobiliser to shut the engine down. Car now back on the road
