96 Civic, died randomly while driving, now wont start (no dash lights)
Heya
Recently I've been driving and the car would just loose all power, I'd see all the dash lights go and the speedo/rev counter drop to zero. Sometimes it would do it just for a sec then come back on, but a couple times it died straight out. I waited a couple secs those times and turned it back on with no further dramas.
Yesterday i took it in to get it's Warrant of Fitness (I'm in New Zealand) and as it was sitting there idling, the mechanics doing their checks it died...permenantly.
We had to roll it out the door as it wouldn't start back up. I can hear it trying to turn over, but there are no dash lights when the ignition is in the "on" position or when trying to start it.
"Outside" lights still work, lights on the a/c come on, and we checked the battery terminals and tried jump starting it, but no luck. So it's not a flat battery.
Upon researching I come to the conclusion its one of these:
- Ignition Coil
- Ignition Switch
- Ignition Control Module
Anyone have any other ideas/comments.
Cheers in advance.

Thanks RonJ, alway apreciate your quick and valuable input.
Turns out it was my "professionally installed" custom alarm system that was at fault. It had a fuel and ignition kill and the cpu that was controlling it is buggered and was cutting the system at random times.
Had my auto electrician remove the cut offs, although it's still partially installed (for the remote central locking).
Anyone know how to remove the thing entirely and return it to its pre-alarm state?? I can live without the remote central locking.
