Default 1999 civic door locks and front radio speakers not working

I recently purchased a 1999 value package civic. The door locks only work when I manually push down the door locks inside each door. The remotre door lock and the drivers side door lock "button" does not work. Also, the radio front speakers do not work.

Would like to hear back on suggestions on what might be the problem and fix? Also, could both problems be related ?

Stock speakers blow out and/or fall apart readily. I'd start by removing a speaker and hooking up a known-good one to see if signal is reaching the speaker wires.

On the locks, start by checking for a blown fuse.

There's a remote chance the problems are related because they both depend on the wires that go between the main part of the car and the door. These wires will eventually break after the door has been opened and closed many many times. Or if someone replaced a door because of a crash, they may have crudely splced the wires leading to open or short circuits.

A short anywhere in the speaker wiring will shut down the amplifier in the radio. This usually kills all 4 speakers but some stock radios may have seperate amplifiers for front and rear.

I think you are saying that the power locks don't work at all. Check whether fuse 51 is blown.

Check whether the front door speakers were removed or disconnected.

I would check the radio connections. The key less entry module on 96-00 Civic's is in the stock radio.

Thanks to all for your suggestions.
I will report back once I have time to start repairs. Maybe I will get lucky with a fuse replacement.
I thought there might be a chance the key less entry and radio were part of the system with the alarm light display on the radio.

This is true for 96-98 Civics not 99-00 Civics. For the latter, the module is in the door.

Yes, none of the power door locks work. I checked fuse 51, thanks for the advice, and it looks ok. Might just exchange it with another 20amp just for sure. Seems to me that all 4 actuators would not be out.

I am now guessing the power door lock control unit? Would that seem logical?

The front speakers will have to be checked later.

If fuse 51 proves to be fine, then performing these electrical tests with a multimeter should expose the specific problem with the power locks:

Thanks abunch RonJ !,
I was just getting ready to update about testing 18p connector from a previous post you gave someone on a test using a 12p connector in a different car(using your signature link pointing to a civic repair guide). Now I need to go buy a tester and get ready to take the door panel off.

Yeah, you can definitely fix the problem without paying the ridiculously high labor costs of a mechanic.

When you identify the faulty component, here's a good place to purchase Honda replacement parts:

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

Alternatively, you might also get used parts from a salvage yard to save $$$.
