Default 2000 Civic LX heater control trouble shooting

When I have my air conditioning on in my 2000 Civic LX the temperature sometimes immediatly turns to full hot and if I move the temperature control dial back and forth a few times the air conditioned air comes back on ice cold. When I have the temperature control dial on full hotit works fine. I need to know if I need to replace the Heater Control Panel or is there something else I should check first?

Before replacing the Heater Control Panel, check your heater control valve. It should be connected to your firewall and generally near the passenger side. Near two hoses that lead into your firewall. Check to see if that moves back and forth when you switch from hot to cold on your control panel. If so, then it's not your panel.
