Default 2000 civic LX illumination problem

Hey guys, a friend of mine has a 2000 civic LX. recently the illumination stopped working, i mean the whole dash does not light up when the lights are turned on. This is especially annoying because the instrument cluster does not light up either.

I checked the fuse 7.5A, looks good. Is there a problem area i should check when i rip out the dash? The only thing i can think of is either the dimming switch is bad, maybe loose connection to it, or a dead ground.
Any input is appreciated.

check the taillights do they work? the dash lights and the taillights run on the same power supply. if they work then i suggest the dimmer switch.

yeah, there is a test where you jumper the dimmer switch to see if it lights up the gauge. If it does, then the dimmer switch is bad. If you do a search, you should find that post.

Okay, i went to a local junk yard. Ripped a dimmer from another civic, switched the faceplate (different color interior) and popped it in. everything works like a charm again, thanks for the info.
